Seventeen of the townhomes would be set aside as affordable units under an arrangement between the developer and the Orange County Land Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The approval at Tuesday night\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Board of Aldermen meeting came after the board heard concerns about how an access road to the site, which will be shared with the park, will affect traffic on Old 86.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>New county construction website<\/strong><br \/>\nOngoing county construction project updates are now available at a new county website.<\/p>\n<p>County residents can view information regarding the status of county construction projects at www.co.orange.nc.us\/construction.<\/p>\n<p>The website provides pictures, information and updates for county construction projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>County appoints new HR director<\/strong><br \/>\nOrange County Manager Laura Blackmon has appointed Michael McGinnis as the county human resources director.<\/p>\n<p>McGinnis comes to the Orange County Personnel Department from the City of Durham, where he served as human resources manager. He has lived in Orange County since 1991.<\/p>\n<p>McGinnis has a bachelor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s degree from Eastern Michigan University, a master\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s degree from UNC-Greensboro and 25 years of human resources experience. He holds professional certifications including Senior Human Resources Professional and Certified Human Resources Professional from the International Personnel Management Association.<\/p>\n<p>McGinnis will begin work September 17.<\/p>\n<p><strong>County commissioners agenda<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Board of County Commissioners will meet for a work session tonight at 7:30 at the Southern Human Services Center on Homestead Road. Here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the agenda:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Update on Legislative\/General Assembly Actions<\/li>\n<li>Proposed 2008-18 Capital Investment Plan and 2008-09 Budget Timeline<\/li>\n<li>County Capital Funding Policy and 2008-18 Capital Plan Revenues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OWASA Water Advisory<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Orange Water and Sewer Authority\u00c2\u00a0 has declared a water supply advisory for its customers.<\/p>\n<p>The advisory does not formally impose water use restrictions but indicates that restrictions may become necessary if water supply conditions don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t improve.<\/p>\n<p>OWASA already has year-round water use restrictions, which remain in effect during a water supply advisory unless they are replaced by additional limitations during a water shortage.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit www.owasa.org.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Domestic violence forum<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Human Services Advisory Commission will sponsor a forum on domestic violence on September 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The theme for the 18th annual HSAC forum is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Domestic Violence Hurts the Whole Community.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Last year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s forum, which was focused on the aging population, raised more than $1,000 for Senior Care of Orange County.<\/p>\n<p>To register for the forum, contact Corinthia Barber at cbarber@co.orange.nc.us or 245-2301 by September 7. The registration fee is $25 and covers materials, continental breakfast, boxed lunch and snacks.<\/p>\n<p>The forum will be held at the Chapel Hill Bible Church on Erwin Road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belafonte to speak at UNC<\/strong><br \/>\nHollywood legend Harry Belafonte \u00e2\u20ac\u201c an award-winning singer, actor, producer and humanitarian \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will discuss \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Importance of the Arts in America\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the university.<\/p>\n<p>The free public lecture, presented by the college and Carolina Performing Arts, will be in Memorial Hall.
