
{"id":8527,"date":"2010-01-02T08:55:51","date_gmt":"2010-01-02T16:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/?p=8527"},"modified":"2010-01-02T08:55:51","modified_gmt":"2010-01-02T16:55:51","slug":"unc-cigna-cut-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2010\/01\/02\/unc-cigna-cut-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"UNC, CIGNA cut deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UNC Health Care System and CIGNA HealthCare of North Carolina announced Monday that they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve reached agreement on a new contract ending an impasse that threatened to deny CIGNA customers access to UNC and Rex Healthcare services.<\/p>\n<p>The new two-year contract takes effect Jan. 1.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are pleased that CIGNA and UNC\/Rex will be continuing their long-standing relationship and that our customers will continue to have access to these quality hospitals and physicians at a reasonable cost,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Charles Pitts, president of CIGNA HealthCare of North Carolina. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are particularly pleased that part of the contract resolution includes the identification of areas to work together to improve service to the community.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n<p>Pitts said that UNC\/Rex and CIGNA will work together to improve care, information exchanges and operational efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It was very important for UNC Health Care and CIGNA to work together to ensure continued coverage for the thousands of patients who choose us for their care,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Dr. William L.
