
{"id":936,"date":"2007-09-20T06:10:29","date_gmt":"2007-09-20T14:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/2007\/09\/20\/school-briefs-82007\/"},"modified":"2007-09-20T06:10:29","modified_gmt":"2007-09-20T14:10:29","slug":"school-briefs-82007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2007\/09\/20\/school-briefs-82007\/","title":{"rendered":"School briefs: 8\/20\/07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>District collects community input with meeting, survey<\/strong><br \/>\nChapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will hold a meeting on September 27 to collect input for the district\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new strategic plan.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, school officials have created an online survey for community members to respond to three questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the one area in which the district needs to improve in order to be considered a highly successful, forward-thinking school district?<\/li>\n<li>What is the greatest external challenge facing the district?<\/li>\n<li>What is the greatest internal challenge facing the district?<\/li>\n<li>The survey has been emailed to parents and staff members and is available at www.chccs.k12.nc.us.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nThe meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith Middle School auditorium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>College Fair <\/strong><br \/>\nChapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Orange County Schools on Tuesday will hold the third annual college fair for high school juniors and seniors from Orange County.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 colleges, universities, community colleges and military, technical and specialty schools will be represented. In addition, the College Foundation of North Carolina will host a booth at the fair.<\/p>\n<p>The fair will be held at UNC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Dean Smith Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fore more information, contact Jeff Reilly, coordinator of student services for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, at 967-8211, ext. 246, or Anne Purcell, director of student services for Orange County Schools, at 732-8126.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Senator goes back to school<\/strong><br \/>\nSen. Ellie Kinnaird will attend classes at Culbreth Middle School on Friday morning as part of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153America\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Legislators Return to School Project.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The project is sponsored by the National Education Association and its local affiliates, the North Carolina Association of Educators and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Association of Educators.<\/p>\n<p>From 8 to 11 a.m., Kinnaird will participate in several classes and serve duty in the halls.<br \/>\nThe project is designed to provide state and federal leaders with the opportunity to experience issues facing American public education firsthand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laughing Turtle to host fundraiser<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Laughing Turtle will host a fundraiser for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation on September 20 from 7 to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Wine and cheese will be served and 20 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Laughing Turtle sells apparel, gifts and interior designs and is located at 149 East Franklin Street.
