
{"id":972,"date":"2007-09-27T05:42:22","date_gmt":"2007-09-27T13:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carrborocitizen.com\/main\/2007\/09\/27\/letters-to-the-editor-92707\/"},"modified":"2007-09-27T05:42:22","modified_gmt":"2007-09-27T13:42:22","slug":"letters-to-the-editor-92707","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/carrborocitizen\/main\/2007\/09\/27\/letters-to-the-editor-92707\/","title":{"rendered":"Letters to the Editor: 9\/27\/07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cook for alderman<\/strong><br \/>\nPlease join me on Tuesday, November 6th and vote for Sharon Cook for election to the Carrboro Board of Alderman.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Sharon has been an active member of this community for over a decade.\u00c2\u00a0 She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s served as a volunteer in our schools, churches and social service agencies.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As your alderman, Sharon will continue to work to increase our commercial tax base to relieve Carrboro residents from the burden of paying the highest municipal taxes in the state.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Sharon serves on the town Planning Board and is an advocate for assuring that new developments do not negatively impact our existing neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deanna Ravenscraft<\/strong><br \/>\nCarrboro<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burroughs for school board<\/strong><br \/>\nI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to introduce you to Mia Burroughs.<\/p>\n<p>Mia cares about our children, and has devoted much of her adult professional life to helping adolescents sort through the problems that arise when they start growing up:\u00c2\u00a0 teenage pregnancy, drugs and fitting in.<\/p>\n<p>I had the pleasure of working with Mia on the Estes Hills SGC, where she served as parent chair, and during two successful campaigns to restore teacher assistants to our elementary classrooms. I witnessed first-hand her passion and dedication toward improving the school environment for our children and our teachers\/assistants.<\/p>\n<p>I believe that Mia will be a breath of fresh air to the school board, adding her 10 years of experience inside the classroom as a volunteer, parent advocate and mother of two.\u00c2\u00a0 She cares about every student, and because of that passion I believe that she will make an excellent addition to our school board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lynda Haake<\/strong><br \/>\nChapel Hill<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coleman\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s performance<\/strong><br \/>\nA healthy democracy depends on responsible, well-informed voters who make electoral decisions based on candidates\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 proven performance.<\/p>\n<p>As a Carrboro alderman, Dan promotes local business, supports transportation alternatives, protects open spaces and limits urban sprawl. In short, he works diligently to ensure that Carrboro remains a vibrant and progressive community in a time of globalization and unprecedented growth.<\/p>\n<p>Dan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proven track record merits broad support from the Carrboro electorate.
