Knox Massey Distinguished Service Award, one of the most coveted distinctions Carolina bestows to faculty and staff. <\/p>\n<p>The late C. Knox Massey of Durham created the awards in 1980 to recognize \u00e2\u20ac\u0153unusual, meritorious or superior contributions\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by UNC employees. In 1984, he joined the families of his son, Knox Massey Jr., and daughter, Kay Massey Weatherspoon, in creating the Massey-Weatherspoon fund. Income from the fund supports the Massey Awards and Carolina Seminars, which promote interdisciplinary thought, study, discussion and intellectual interchange on a wide variety of topics.<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor Holden Thorp will host a dinner for the recipients April 24 to celebrate the 31st year of the awards. Thorp selected this year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s recipients based on nominations from the campus community and each honoree will receive an award citation and a $6,000 stipend. <\/p>\n<p>The recipients are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tBruce Carney of Carrboro, executive vice chancellor and provost;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tAnson Dorrance of Chapel Hill, women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s soccer coach;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tStephen Farmer of Carrboro, associate provost and director of undergraduate admissions; <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tPatricia Oliver of Gibsonville, assistant dean for finance and business, medicine administration;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tJames Steven Reznick of Chapel Hill, psychology professor and associate dean of the Undergraduate Education Office; and<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tNihlei Tial of Chapel Hill, housekeeper in the Joyner and Connor<br \/>\nresidence halls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNC will honor six outstanding employees with a 2010 C.
