Science teacher Robin Bulleri applied for the grant to fund a<br \/>\nbiotechnology project at Carrboro High.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Smith Middle School received a $5,000 Lowe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Toolbox for Education Grant from the Lowe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Charitable and Educational Foundation. Teachers Kelly Sears and Melinda Fitzgerald received the grant to fund a proposal entitled, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Sediment Rangers: 8th Grade Stewardship and Outdoor Classroom Project.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orchestra receives superior ratings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Phillips Middle School orchestra received straight superior ratings at the Carowinds Music Festival in Charlotte on May 11.<\/p>\n<p>The orchestra performed three pieces \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153An English Folksong,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Country Wedding,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by Smetana and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gauntlet,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by Doug Spata \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and was evaluated by a panel of three judges.<\/p>\n<p>The orchestra also received straight superior ratings at the Eastern Regional Orchestra Festival in March.
