A reception will be held Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The 23rd annual \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Sculpture in the Garden\u00e2\u20ac\u009d exhibit at the <strong>N.C. Botanical Garden<\/strong> opens Oct. 1 and runs through Nov. 19, featuring the works of 30 sculptors using a variety of media, including stone, stainless steel, concrete, clay, wood and recycled aluminum. More than 50 one-of-a-kind sculptures by new and returning artists from around the state will be placed amid the native wildflowers.<\/p>\n<p>At the <strong>Ackland Art Museum<\/strong> on the UNC campus, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Carolina Collects: 150 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is on display through Dec. 4. The exhibit features nearly 90 hidden treasures by some of the most renowned artists of the modern era, gathered from private collections of UNC alumni, including works ranging from an oil painting by Claude Monet and a suspended sculpture by Olafur Eliasson to an Alexander Calder standing mobile and a Pablo Picasso gouache. <\/p>\n<p>At <strong>FRANK<\/strong> this month, member artist Sudi Rakusin will display the paintings in her \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Chorus of Saints\u00e2\u20ac\u009d series that inspired her latest project, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Journey Cards,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a divination deck built around the 19 imagined female saints and 36 goddesses drawn from cultures around the world. Much of the exhibit has an environmentally conscious slant, embodying recycling, reuse, restoring and renewable materials, featuring works by staple LIGHT artists Lynda Curry, Beverly Dawson, Al Frega, Peg Gignoux, Lynda Sanders, Leigh Suggs and others, as well as woodworker Tom Shields, a new artist to LIGHT. The exhibit features canvases that swing with shape, color and texture. An opening reception will be held Sept. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. and the exhibit will run through Oct. 23. <\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Saxapahaw<\/strong>, the works of Suzanne Connors and Nancy Raasch, including art-to-wear and jewelry, are on display this month through Oct. 30.
