Brad is trying to slip away, mixing with guests, being
cool.
Cyndi and the matre'd catch up with him, as Justin, Richard,
and Evelyn also enter the area.
Evelyn will have fetched her recorder, put in a new tape, and
begin recording what follows.
DWALLAH
Mmmmmmmmmmmm!
MATRE'D
Brad! Going somewhere?
WAITPERSON
Don't do something rash. I'm serious here.
DWALLAH
Mrs. Brodey! The widow is with us! I feel her
spirit! I become her!
WAITPERSON
I can't stand any more of her.
DWALLAH
I feel the Spirit of Mrs. Brodey!
WAITPERSON
Lady, I--!
JUSTIN
Let her speak. What about Mrs. Brodey?
DWALLAH
I have a message from Mrs. Brodey.
JUSTIN
What is it?
Dwallah opens her eyes: and becomes a new character.
She becomes Mrs. Brodey and will give a rambling monlogue
in a character we have not seen before. She is starting
somewhere in the middle of her story, and this is so
strange yet convincing, she has everyone's attention.
She'll include everyone in her story now, rambling on.
The others will be conscious of the danger across the room,
and Justin will make sure neither Brad nor Richard can sneak
away, both of whom would just as soon do just that.
DWALLAH as MRS. BRODY
Which ended at the MAC Club. I was going to
have one for the road, you see, and take a
taxi right here because I had every intention
of coming to the wedding, I really did. Well,
I was off and on about it, hot and cold, all
day. I'll tell you why later. Anyway, I'm in
the MAC club when this gentleman joins me at
the bar, and I was certain he was Iranian.
I've never met an Iranian but I was sure he
was. As it turns out, I was hoping to meet an
Iranian, I had very good reason for needing an
Iranian, and so I asked him, very forward,
mind you, which was the alcohol -- I've had a
little too much to drink today but, what the
hell, not everyday you have a day like mine,
and my daughter getting married isn't the half
of it -- I said to this Iranian, "Excuse me,
you're Iranian, aren't you? Perhaps you can
help me find a terrorist." Now I meant it --
but he thought it was a joke, and a bad joke
at that! He felt very insulted, as a matter
of fact, because he wasn't Iranian at all, he
was from Israel. Well, he huffed and puffed,
and the bartender, George, came over to see
what the fuss was about, and I never had a
chance to explain that I really did want a
terrorist, this was very much on my mind,
because I'd decided to hire a plane and buzz
the wedding -- "buzz" is the term, isn't it?
-- to fly right over the resort and drop
some dynamite or a Molotov Cocktail or
whatever was necessary, the terrorist could
decide all that, and poof!, the whole wedding
would blow up to kingdom come! I thought it
would make a very funny wedding present.
Well, that's my sick sense of humor. Not
really that sick, under the circumstances.
I lost my appeal. Can you believe that?
I'm a convicted murderer! Well, we don't
want to disappoint them, do we?
Jack, Trudy, Lylla and Susanne have come into the area.
