Which is easier? Winning the lottery or selling a
screenplay?
A very interesting statistic on this matter was posted
on the Internet. Quoting an article in the February 1-7, 2000, issue
of Hollywood Reporter, which quotes from the book The Big Deal:
Hollywood's Spec Script Market by Thom Taylor, a person posted this
comparison:
- Between 1984 and 1993, there were 1,333 millionaires from the
California lottery.
- During the same time period, 393 screenwriters made over a million
dollars from a script.
If these figures are correct, it seems that it is almost four times easier
to win the California lottery than to sell a screenplay for a million
dollars!
