Dear I have adapted Kate Chopin's 1899 novel, THE AWAKENING. American born Edna Pontellier is a pampered young married woman who, during a summer vacation at the Grande Isle, falls in love with a vacationer, Robert Lebrun. This involvement leads to Edna "awakening", a transformation which causes her to question her role as wife and mother, and to more clearly define her identity as an artist. On returning to New Orleans with her French Creole husband, Leonce, and two young sons, Edna has an affair with another man, Alcee Arobin, and temporarily moves into her own lodgings. Such radical gestures threaten Edna's life as she has known it. THE AWAKENING was produced under the alternate title, THE GRAND ISLE, by Turner Pictures for cable television in 1991, to mixed reviews. I think you will find that my script presents a more powerful, compelling dramatic hook than THE GRAND ISLE, while remaining true to the spirit of Kate Chopin's book. In light of current public interest in adapted period pieces, a fresh take on this novel might generate excitement. May I send you my script? I recently completed a graduate screenwriting program at Portland State University. Sincerely, Adriane Rainer
