The student will gain the basic knowledge of how networks are built using routers, switches and category 5 Ethernet. They will understand IP addressing schemes and subnet masking and how they are applied across a router based network. At an introductory level, students will learn basic router configuration along with a troubleshooting process for problem determination.
September 16th:
The OSI model and data packet delivery. Describes what
a data packet looks like and shows how data is delivered from one
computer to another based on the the OSI standards.
September 17th:
Structured wiring schemes. In-depth look at star topology wiring schemes
using Category 5 unshielded twisted pair and fiber optic cables.
Describes the purpose of the Main Distribution Facility (MDF) and the
Intermediate Distribution Facility (IDF).
September 18th:
IP Addressing and subnet masking. Describes the IP address and the
subnet mask and how they are applied across a router based network.
Basic router configuration. Getting started with router configuration
and its support of the network.
September 19th:
Router configuration techniques, including a step by step process
for configuring. Interviews with the participants of the Arizona "Cisco
Kids Academy".
