Change In the Marketplace

Today's computer company must grow globally or die. The market for computer products and services is global. Customers and competitors are now spread throughout the world and so is the technology needed to compete.

A global market, combined with shrinking product life-cycles and accelerating product diversification, adds up to fierce international competition.

So far, the U.S. computer systems industry has succeeded in maintaining its international lead. But government and industry must work together if the U.S. is to maintain its competitive edge in the modern global marketplace.

Quote -- John Sculley, Chairman, President, & CEO, Apple Computer -- "In the new economy, strategic resources are no longer just the ones that come out of the ground, they are ideas and information that come out of our minds."

Quote -- Edward R. McCracken, President & CEO, Silicon Graphics -- "Overseas growth is crucial to the future of this industry. We must develop a national strategy which will support the global competitiveness of American technology."
