DARKNESS FALLS "DECEPTIO VISUS A TERGO" BY ELESHA RENEE' BARNETTE FIRST DRAFT OPENING CREDITS FADE IN INT. OF LINDSAY KELLERS' APARTMENT - MORNING LINDSAY KELLERS WINTERS is just getting up. She is sleeping in a man's shirt. She puts the picture of Carson Winters back on the nightstand next to her bed. She had previously been cuddling it in her arms. She gets up from the bed. As she only sleeps on one side the other side is still perfectly made. She goes into the bathroom and takes her toothbrush from the holder and another is in it. She gets out of the shower and puts on her robe, but another still hangs on the door. She sits at the table alone eating breakfast. She is flipping through a scrapbook. She goes to get the paper, two pairs of slippers are by the door. She is still in a dreamlike state as she picks up the paper laying in the yard. She hears approaching footsteps. She looks up and too her side is a hooded figure walking down the sidewalk. She looks up to see him looking her way, but his face is still shielded. CUT TO: C.U. of Lindsay looking wary and a bit petrified. Lindsay turns to walk abruptly back into the house. She can still hear the footsteps getting louder and louder as if the person is coming up right behind her. She turns around at the climax of the footsteps. No one is there. Lindsay looks around then rushes into the house. She rushes into her bedroom and throws open the closet. She pushes hangars apart until she finds a hooded sweatshirt that looks like the one the man outside was wearing. She fingers it as if remembering something. She closes her eyes. After a few moments she closes the closet door. She turns around to find herself face to face with SPENCER WILSON. She jumps in fright. LINDSAY How did you get in here? SPENCER The door was open. LINDSAY No, it wasn't. SPENCER Yes, it was. (pause) What are you doing? LINDSAY (a bit embarrassed) Getting some shoes. Spencer looks at bedroom slipper clad feet and then back at her. She looks him in the eyes briefly. Then Lindsay opens only one side of the closet and gets her shoes out. SPENCER It's a bit chilly out there. As Lindsay absentmindedly looks for a windbreaker Spencer puts his hand on her shoulder, and reaches her a jacket. She slips it on and he tries to help her. SPENCER LINDSAY, you ok? LINDSAY (emotionless) You're late. Lindsay turns to go. Spencer looks after her in a peculiar manner before following her out of the room. CUT TO: INT. OF CAR - DAY Lindsay and Spencer are riding along. Lindsay is as far away from him as possible and he keeps looking at her. The radio is playing in the background softly. He keeps looking at Lindsay occasionly in an anxious, pensive manner. SPENCER Lindsay? Spencer looks at Lindsay imploringly, but she doesn't look his way. SPENCER Lindsay? (pause) I'm sorry, but something came up. (pause) I hope your boss won't be too upset. I'd hate to get you fired. (long pause) You aren't too late. LINDSAY Stop apologizing to me Spencer. You don't owe me anything. (pause) You don't have to give me a ride. SPENCER (sighs) I do. (pause) I mean... I want to. Lindsay sighs and rolls her eyes in frustration as if she has heard this all before. LINDSAY Spencer...don't... SPENCER Just listen Lindsay. (pause) I know you think things just got out of hand, but I just think...(pause)... I just feel that we really hav- LINDSAY (aggravated) Spencer...please. (pause) We've been through this too many times. (pause, sighs heavily, more to herself than to him) God, I've still got too much on my mind. Carson... SPENCER -is gone. Carson is gone, Lindsay. It's been almost a year since- LINDSAY -the accident. Yes, I know. That's what everyone keeps telling me, but they never...they never found the body. (whispering) They could never find his body. And, god...I see his face every day. Every waking moment. I can't seem to put it all behind me. SPENCER All you do is study and work these days. You never go out. You can't close yourself off from the rest of the world forever. You have to learn to live again. (pause) You have to love again. LINDSAY (angry) I don't need this Spencer. SPENCER (frustrated, forceful) There's life after Carson. There's love after Carson too. LINDSAY (angry) I don't need this. (pause) I don't need you, Spencer. Spencer looks hurt. Lindsay looks at him a bit ashamed for her mean comments. LINDSAY I'm sorry. Listen, I didn't mean it like that. I'm sorry about the other night. It should have never happened. I wasn't ready for that. SPENCER Ok, Lindsay. (pause) I'll wait though. You and I belong- LINDSAY (angry) Spencer. No. (pause) Here's my stop. Spencer stops the car. She tries the door, but it is locked. Spencer looks at her. LINDSAY Open the door, Spencer. I'm already late. Lindsay tries the lock again, but Spencer hits the power locks again. SPENCER Wait. Lindsay, you and I belong together. LINDSAY You're crazy. You know that. That's how you sound. Crazy. SPENCER I might sound crazy, but if you let this Carson thing forever control your life, that's what you'll be. It will drive you crazy. (pause, lighter) Me, I'm just crazy about you. Lindsay gives him a look of disbelief. LINDSAY Let me out Spencer. Spencer lets her out. Lindsay walks toward a building. Spencer then struggles to get out of the car too. He calls after her. SPENCER (shouting) Lindsay! Hey, Lindsay! Lindsay looks back with an aggravated look on her face. SPENCER What time do you need me to pick you up? LINDSAY Oh, I don't need a ride. I'll catch the bus or something. SPENCER It's no problem, Lindsay. Really. (pause) Hey, Lindsay... I'm sorry. Lindsay starts to walk away. LINDSAY See you later. Spencer walks back to his car, and gets in. Lindsay walks into the office building. She peeps out of the glass front to watch Spencer drive away. When he has pulled away and is out of sight Lindsay looks around warily. She leaves the office building and walks briskly down the street in another direction. FADE OUT INT. DARK OFFICE - DAY The office is dimly lit. Lindsay is sitting down drinking some tea. Her psychiatrist is there, but is only heard not seen. LINDSAY Maybe I am crazy. PSYCHIATRIST What do you think? LINDSAY Well, (pause) no. I mean (pause) I don't know. Love and crazy should never be used in the same sentence. (pause) Not in the same Conversation, but... Lindsay stands up and goes over to the window. She peeps through the blinds some sunlight lighting her face amidst the dark room. LINDSAY But, I feel like that is what everyone I know is doing. Throwing crazy in there with love and making me out to be some... (pause) Who says I have to ever get over Carson? You know what I'm saying? PSYCHIATRIST Well, it doesn't matter whether I understand or not. LINDSAY Sometimes I just feel like I need a fresh start. Away from all of this. You know? (pause) I know. I know. How do I feel about it? (sighs heavily) I feel like just leaving, but the past does follow you. I mean just because you go away doesn't mean the problems do. So... There is deafening silence as Lindsay thinks through some flashbacks of she and Carson. 1. Carson and Lindsay are in Ben & Jerry's. She already has a cup and he calls out his order to the attendant: "Vanilla Bean, Cookies & Cream, half & half" Lindsay laughs at the routine antic. 2. Carson and Lindsay are jogging Through their apartment complex. She is tiring, so he grabs her arm, pulling her too him and running along laughing. 3. Carson and Lindsay are in the library. He's looking at books in the psychology section and she is standing by bored trying to distract him by whispering in his ear, etc. PSYCHIATRIST Is there something else Lindsay? She is smiling at the memories, then realizes she is being asked a question. LINDSAY Well, this morning... PSYCHIATRIST Yes, what happened? CUT TO: C.U. of Lindsay looking paranoid. As the psychiatrist calls her name in the background Lindsay sees flashback from the morning. 1. The hooded figure is headed toward her and the footsteps echo. 2. Intense close-up of Lindsay back in her apartment in front of the closet. 3. Hear the voice over of Spencer from earlier as it meshes with the voice of the psychiatrist: "Lindsay, are you ok?" PSYCHIATRIST Lindsay, are you ok? CUT TO: C.U. of Lindsay coming out of a trance. LINDSAY Well,(pause) there's Spencer. PSYCHIATRIST Spencer? Lindsay looks in the direction of the psychiatrist a bit alarmed that the name doesn't ring a bell as the psychiatrist flipping through a legal pad can be heard. PSYCHIATRIST Ah, yes. Spencer. How do you feel about Spencer? Lindsay looks out of the window again and sighs. LINDSAY Spencer... CUT TO: FRANKLIN STREET - AFTERNOON Lindsay is walking about aimlessly looking in one shop window after another. She keeps walking. She buys a newspaper and flips to the classifieds. She is walking with the paper up. She lowers the paper to look at the Ben & Jerry's sign. She hesistates then heads toward it and goes in. CUT TO: INT. BEN & JERRY'S - AFTERNOON Lindsay is enjoying a cup of ice cream and is pouring over the want ads with a highlighter. She is engrossed when the attendant calls out order #52. ATTENDANT Order 52! Vanilla Bean, Cookies & Cream, half & half! Order 52! Vanilla Bea..... CUT TO: C.U. of Lindsay's face as she turns to look at the counter. The hooded figure gets the ice cream. Lindsay stands up in shock and fright. She gathers her things and starts to back toward the back exit. The hooded figure takes notice of her and starts her way. ATTENDANT Hey, you have to pay for that! The hooded figure continues to approach Lindsay. He throws the ice cream in the trash as she walks toward her. Lindsay takes off to the back. CUT TO: DARK ALLEY - AFTERNOON Lindsay has just come out of the back exit of Ben & Jerry's. She is looking about and walking fast. She hears footsteps, then they stop. She looks around to see the hooded figure standing at the end of the alley near the exit of Ben & Jerry's. She turns and begins to run. He walks at a steady pace, but seems to be gaining never the less. She heads to where the alley lets out into Franklin street. The footsteps are echoing louder and louder. She makes it out into the street just as the steps reach a climax. Arms grab her after she has taken a few steps on the street. LINDSAY (screaming) Awwwwwwww! (sobbing like) Who are you? People on the day lit street stare at her as Spencer tries to comfort her. SPENCER What's wrong? LINDSAY Spencer! (breathing hard) He's behind me... (breathing hard) He's right... Lindsay is looking around trying to pull away from Spencer's grip. SPENCER What's wrong? No one's behind you. LINDSAY Why are you here? (pause) Spencer? What are you doing here?(long pause) Let go Spencer. SPENCER Why didn't you tell me you quit your job? I went by to see if you needed a ride and they said you quit like a week ago. Lindsay is looking around wildly trying to sort things out. LINDSAY Spencer, I told you I didn't need a ride. SPENCER Lindsay, what is wrong with you? You've been acting strange for awhile now. (pause) Why are looking at me like that? LINDSAY I gotta go. I've got some studying to do for our exam. SPENCER Lindsay, we've got a study group tonight. Why don't you come with me? Get out of your apartment. You know? Lindsay looks to where he's still firmly got her by the arm. LINDSAY I might meet you later. I don't know. (absentminded) I gotta go. She tries to pull away. He doesn't let go. LINDSAY (a bit loud) Spencer, let go. SPENCER (forceful) No. Lindsay stares at Spencer in shock. He is shocked by his tone too. People on the street notice them. SPENCER (quieter, gentler) What I mean is no, I can't let you wander off by yourself. There's been another assault. No arrest. LINDSAY Oh. (pause) Is she ok? SPENCER No. So, let's go. Ok? LINDSAY Spencer, I'll be ok. I'll see you later. Ok? SPENCER (quiet, sullen) With Seargent Stokes? LINDSAY Yeah. Ok, gotta go. Bye. I'll be careful. Lindsay sees a bus across the street, so she has to hurry. Spencer looks after her, mysterious look on his face. INT. LINDSAY'S APARTMENT - DUSK She is closing her blinds. She straightens her magazines several times. She takes a pot from her refrigerator, but not before consulting daily nutrition chart on her refrigerator. She sits at her table to eat. Everything is neat and in order. She aligns her silverware before eating. She now prepares herself for studying. She arranges her books in order by size and her pens are color-coordinated. Notecards are stacked neatly by her books also. She sits erect in the chair and opens one book. CUT TO: INT. OF LINDSAY'S BEDROOM - DREAM SEQUENCE Lindsay is in bed. She wakes up as very pale Carson walks into her bedroom. LINDSAY Carson? Why are you so late baby? Carson doesn't answer, but gets in bed with her. Wraps his arms around her waist. She plays with his hands, kisses one of them, holds it to her cheek. LINDSAY (whisper) Carson, you're so cold. She starts to turn over. She sees that it is the hooded figure in her bed. She tries to fight him off. She pulls at the hood. . The hooded figure tries to hide his face. It's Spencer now. He grabs her arms and won't let go, but his face shows concern. LINDSAY Let go Spencer. CUT TO: INT. LINDSAY'S APARTMENT - NIGHT Lindsay is awakened by knocking at her front door. She gets up from the table where she had fallen asleep. She goes to her door. LINDSAY Who is it? SPENCER It's me. Spencer. Lindsay sighs and opens the door. Spencer is looking concerned. SPENCER Hey, I thought I would just drop by see how you're doing. LINDSAY (shaky) I'm fine. SPENCER You don't sound fine. You sure you ok? LINDSAY (voice cracking) That's what I said. They kind of stand there just staring. SPENCER Can I come in? LINDSAY (hesistating) Well, ok. CUT TO: INT. LINDSAY'S APARTMENT - LATER They sit on the couch. She's fixed coffee. They are sitting silently. SPENCER You ready for our exam? LINDSAY Not yet, but I'm getting there. SPENCER Yeah. LINDSAY How was the study group? SPENCER Good. It was good. LINDSAY That's good. SPENCER You should really come tomorrow. LINDSAY Perhaps I will. They sit silent again. SPENCER Lindsay, about earlier. I'm sorry, but I'm worried about you. Really. He looks at her. She turns to meet his gaze, and so now assured he goes on. SPENCER I would be lying if I said I don't have feelings for you, but putting that aside for the moment I care about how you're doing otherwise. (long pause) With the year anniversary of the accident approaching I know things are hard, but- LINDSAY (shaky) SPENCER- SPENCER Hold on. I've seen you hurt too much and I don't want to see it happen to you again and - He's interrupted by her sudden kiss. They kiss, then she pulls apart suddenly sorry for her behavior. LINDSAY I'm sorry. You should probably go... (pause) SPENCER No... (pause) Spencer kisses her again, she lets him. SPENCER What's bothering you? LINDSAY Spencer. I can't think about any of it. You were right. SPENCER About what? LINDSAY I'm going crazy. I think I'm seeing things and I just don't know... She trails off in a teary manner and he moves as they settle in on the couch. SPENCER It will be ok. CUT TO: C.U. of Spencer looking satisfied and suspicious as she lays her head on his shoulder. FADE OUT INT. DAVIS LIBRARY - DUSK/DARK Lindsay is walking through the library. She takes the elevator. She takes notice of a coupld cuddling on the elevator. She has a pained look on her face. They get off the elevator. The rest of the elevator people get off at the next stop and a weird guy gets on. She pulls her books to her more. He gets off at the next stop, not having taken notice of her. She gets off at her stop. No one seems to be around, but her. She walks through the stacks. She intentionally walks to the psychology stacks, and begins to sift through some of the books. There is the sound of footsteps. She peeps out into the aisle and sees no one and the footsteps stop too. She goes back to leafing through the books, and the footsteps start again. CUT TO: C.U. of Lindsay looking a bit alarmed. She steps out into the aisle this time and sees no one yet again, and the footsteps stop too. LINDSAY (timidly) Hello? (shaky) Hello? She steps back into the stacks and puts the books back quickly. Footsteps again. She practically runs into the aisle. LINDSAY Is anyone there? She can't hear anything, but when she turns around the hooded figure is standing at the end of the aisle in an imposing, threatening manner. Lindsay stands motionless for a moment before backing away. She begins to move quickly down the aisle. She looks over her shoulder. No one is there, but she still hears the footsteps. When she faces forward again he's there in front of her a distance away. He starts her way again, and she ducks down an aisle. She inches along the shelves. A low angle shot shows their feet in perpective to one another. She leans against a side shelf and breathes hard. The footsteps are getting louder and louder. There is also the sound of shallow breathing that gets louder and louder too. Just as it reaches it's climax she turns to run away back toward the elevators. A bell sounds indicating an elevator has arrived. She looks back over her shoulder and runs directly into Spencer. She screams again. SPENCER What's wrong? LINDSAY Spencer, he's behind me. (breathing hard) There was someone following me. SPENCER (worried) Lindsay? LINDSAY Spencer... (pause, emphasis) he's... wearing... She tries to look into his eyes, but has difficulty with this. SPENCER What is it Lindsay? LINDSAY Nothing. (pause) Where's the study group? SPENCER (unsure) Uh, right around here. He leads her down the hallway. She keeps looking around as they walk through the stacks. As they pass through the psychology section he looks her in the eyes. She shivers. He puts his arm around her shoulders and she lets him. CUT TO: INT. DAVIS STUDY ROOM - NIGHT Spencer leads Lindsay into the study room. There is a group of coffee drinking, lap-top carrying grad students all looking ever-so eager to study. They are quite the lively crowd. SPENCER Hey, everybody. You know Lindsay. She's has Anth Perspectives with us. STUDENTS Hey, Lindsay... Where do you sit?... This class is such a killer... Hi... Nice to meet you... DOUG You look familiar. SHARON She does have the class with us, duh. The students all laugh. DOUG No, I know you from somewhere else. Lindsay is feeling a bit uncomfortable as she and Spencer take their seats. TED Anyway, I'm not ready for this. Enough chat please. SHARON Yeah, I need to study too. AMY Hmm... where to start? DOUG The Carson Winters' accident. Lindsay freezes up at the mention of this and Spencer gives Doug an absolutely malicious look. SHARON What? What are you talking about Doug? DOUG Oh, I just remembered where I know you from. You said Lindsay right? LINDSAY (quiet) Yeah. DOUG I covered it for the DTH. (pause) What a terrible accident. Never found the body did they? LEWIS No, they didn't. I remember that. Been about a year since then I think. SPENCER Can we study? DOUG Wait, how did you know Carson? Did you like witness the accident or something. It's been awhile. LINDSAY (shaken) He was my husband. SHARON You poor thing. I'm sorry. Were you married long? LINDSAY Almost a year and a half. LEWIS You must have married young. AMY Come on guys. Let's study. (to Lindsay) You'll have to excuse them. They left their manners at home. TED Yeah, besides last time I checked Doug you weren't a genius. We should get started on this. DOUG Shut-up Ted. Anyway, so where were we? AMY Chapter seven, I think. I always sleep in this class. As they carry the rest of this conversation Lindsay is looking increasingly uncomfortable. Spencer is looking uncomfortable too. CUT TO: INT. DAVIS STUDY ROOM - DREAM SEQUENCE #2 This scene should have a special blur effect at some point so that it takes on a dream sequence feel. The students are gathered around the table studying for their exam. TED I don't buy this definition of truth. DOUG I know. A verified or indisputable fact? SHARON Well, I think that it is a good definition considering the difficulty of defining such a word. SPENCER But it only makes you formulate a definition for fact. This conversation has no sigificance, but while it goes on there is a close up of Lindsay the whole time. The hooded figure passes by the door and looks in. Lindsay looks frightened. The hooded figure opens the door and comes in. Lindsay is motionless and she looks around. She finds that no one notices the hooded figure. They continue with the conversation. AMY No one can verify what is true and what is not. It's so objective. The hooded figure stands menacingly at the door. It begins to move toward Lindsay. She pushes back in her chair. It gets closer to her. LEWIS Ahh, objectivity. Whenever a real Real answer doesn't exist or we're too stupid to come up with one it's objectivity. Everything's objective. DOUG What do you think? Lindsay? Special Effect blur or something now. Everyone stares at her as the hooded figure steps closer. Someone grabs her hand. She looks at it then follows the arm to the face. She smiles warmly and is relieved to see the gentle smiling face of Carson. LINDSAY (whispering) Carson... Someone grabs her other arm. She turns to see that it's Spencer. Now, it's only Carson, Spencer and Lindsay in the room. LINDSAY Spencer, let go. Lindsay turns back to face Carson, but it's the hooded figure. She jumps to move away. She turns back to Spencer. It's the hooded figure again. CUT TO: INT. DAVIS STUDY ROOM - NIGHT Lindsay jumps from her sleep. Spencer jumps at her sudden movement. SPENCER What's wrong? LINDSAY Where's everyone? SPENCER You fell asleep. It was kind of boring. LINDSAY Where's everyone else? SPENCER I'm trying to tell- (pause) Lindsay where are you going? Lindsay has gathered her things and is now leaving the study room. SPENCER Lindsay? Lindsay runs through the library. She reaches the elevators, but they are taking too long. She hears Spencer approaching. SPENCER Lindsay? Wait up... She enters the stairwell. Spencer rounds the corner moments after the door to the stairs closes. Spencer looks around. An elevator arrives. GUY IN ELEVATOR Going down? Spencer looks around. SPENCER Uh, yeah. Spencer gets on the elevator. CUT TO: INT. STAIRWELL - NIGHT Lindsay is taking the stairs two at a time. She is breathing hard. She hears a door open on one of the other floors and shut loudly. She hurries on and her breathing increases. CUT TO: FIRST FLOOR DAVIS - NIGHT Lindsay emerges from the stairwell sweating lightly. She makes her way to the safe escort table although she is visibly shaken and worn out. She waits in line to sign up. She looks around. SAFE ESCORT STUDENT Next, please. LINDSAY Oh. She moves to sign up. She hands then her UNC one card, but not before looking around once more. The hooded figure is on the balcony of the second floor looking down at her. He starts to walk toward the stairs. She instinctively backs away. SAFE ESCORT STUDENT Uh, ma'am... your one card. Lindsay is not listening, but is making a bee-line for the door. She runs out onto the yard. She looks around before heading to the stairs leading away from the pit. She runs down the stairs. At the bottom she looks back. He is at the top of the stairs. She is sprinting now. A bus (or the P2P) pulls up in front of the union. People get off and she gets on. She looks out the window, but he is not there. She sits with her head down, a few tears drop into her lap. The tears continue to fall. She suddenly wipes her eyes as if she is taking control of her emotions. She sits up straighter looks around a bit. At the back of the bus is the hooded figure. CUT TO: C.U. of Lindsay looking petrified. The hooded figure gets up and heads toward her. Lindsay doesn't move, but cradles her head in her hands. Just as the figure should be reaching her the bus driver calls out her stop. BUS-DRIVER S-lot! Lindsay looks up. The figure is no where to be found. She exits the bus in a hurry. She hurries to her car and gets in. She locks the door and looks around. CUT TO: DARK ROAD - NIGHT Lindsay is driving along a dark road. As she drives she has a flashback sequence perhaps a blue-ish tint to this. 1. Carson and Lindsay drive along the road laughing. 2. Carson and Lindsay looked panicked, and he seems to lose control of the car. 3. Lindsay, face bruised and limping calls out for Carson along the road. 4. A policeman talks to Lindsay who is now wrapped in a blanket, and she tries to look pass him. Lindsay comes out of the trance. She continues to drive. She slows as she sees someone walking on the shoulder of the road. She slows in her approach and into her headlights she sees the hooded figure. She speeds away in a panick. CUT TO: PARKING LOT AT APARTMENTS - NIGHT Lindsay hurries from her car. She doesn't even need to look around to know that the hooded figure is behind her. She runs to her door, goes in, and shuts it behind her. She leans against the door breathing hard. She goes to her phone and hits speed dial. It rings and rings. Finally someone picks up. PSYCHIATRIST Hello? There is knocking at Lindsay's door. So, she is distracted. PSYCHIATRIST Hello? LINDSAY Hello... doctor. This is Lindsay. PSYCHIATRIST Who? LINDSAY Lindsay. Lindsay Kellers (Winters). The knocking is louder, and it is overwhelming, so Lindsay is not sliding down her wall to sit on the floor. PSYCHIATRIST Ah, yes. Lindsay. What is the Problem. LINDSAY (whisper like) It's Carson. I think he's alive. I mean I see, hear him... someone, thing that looks... the knocking and... in the library... PSYCHIATRIST Now, Lindsay. It sounds to me as if you are hallucinating. And that is a natural part of the healing process. You're seeing Carson... LINDSAY I'm hearing him too. He's at my Door right now. PSYCHIATRIST Lindsay! Listen. Take a deep breath and relax. Count to five. Let's do it together... Ready? LINDSAY Ok (pause, deep breath) One. Two. Three. (pause) Four. (long pause) Five. The knocking stops and Lindsay looks bewildered and skeptical. PSCHIATRIST Better? (long pause) Lindsay? LINDSAY Yes. PSYCHIATRIST Now, there is nothing to fear. No one is following you, Lindsay. (sighs) I want you to rest tonight. Light some candles. Take a long, relaxing shower, and get to bed early. We'll work through this all tomorrow. LINDSAY But doctor- PSYCHIATRIST I have to go now. I'll see you tomorrow. Bye, bye. Lindsay hangs up the phone still in a sort of trance. CUT TO: Lindsay puts on some tea. CUT TO: Lindsay lights aroma therapy candles in her room. CUT TO: Lindsay turns on the shower, but pauses and looks around before getting in. She takes a long relaxing shower. (Uh, close-ups here boys:)) Lindsay steps out of the shower and wraps her towel around herself. Again she looks around as if unsure about something. She goes into her bedroom. As Lindsay passes by her mirror the hooded figure entering her bedroom can be seen. A low angle shows the towel fall to the floor as well as the approaching feet of the hooded figure. Now dressed she turns around to come face to "hood" with the hooded figure. She starts to scream, but he removes the hood and she is absolutely shocked and silent. A very pale, dead looking Carson Winters stands before her. He starts out of her room. He reaches the door and looks back. She hesistates, but then grabs a pair of jogging pants and the hooded shirt from the closet. She pulls them over her pajamas and follows him. CUT TO: Lindsay and Carson walk through the house toward the front door. They head out the front door. Spencer is sitting against her door. He jumps up as she exits. He can't see Carson. SPENCER Lindsay? Where are you going? She doesn't answer, but follows Carson as if in a trance. CUT TO: Lindsay and Carson exit the apartment complex. CUT TO: Spencer's P.O.V. shows only Lindsay exiting the apartment complex. CUT TO: Carson and Lindsay walk through woods, Spencer follows closely behind. CUT TO: Carson stops walking and just stands still. He looks closely at Lindsay pleading with his eyes. Spencer runs up beside her. Spencer looks at Lindsay. CUT TO: Carson disappears. Lindsay cries and Spencer usure of what to make of the scene comforts her. CUT TO: SPOT WHERE CARSON DISAPPEARED - DAY Police comb the area with shovels. Lindsay and Spencer stand near the road. POLICE OFFICER (to the group looking) We found him. (quieter) Right where she said he'd be. Another cop signals to Lindsay and Spencer. CUT TO: GRAVEYARD - DAY Lindsay places flowers on a grave. After a few moments Spencer comes up behind her and leads her away. They walk away hand in hand. FADE OUT END 1
