The Future of Our Food and Farms 2001
A Mid-Atlantic Regional Summit to Promote Agriculture,
Learn about Trends in Food Distribution
and Find Ways to Reduce Hunger
The Future of our Food and Farms Summit seeks proposals for presentations for the 2001 Summit to be held on November 29 and 30, 2001 near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Summit’s purpose is to promote agriculture, learn about trends in food distribution and find ways to reduce hunger in the Mid-Atlantic Region--including Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The Summit aims to increase knowledge of the food system; improve community food security; increase opportunities for networking among leaders, professionals, and youth; and encourage collaboration among diverse people working to strengthen the food system so that it serves all.
Anyone involved or interested in food and agriculture issues is invited to attend. The Summit brings together a diverse array of viewpoints and experiences, and aims to find common ground among them. We invite presentations from farmers, policy-makers, legislators, legislative staff, youth, educators, emergency food providers, faith-based community representatives, urban farmers, educators, environmentalists, agribusiness representatives, food wholesalers and retailers, government officials, media representatives, community gardeners, nutritionists, extension agents, food safety researchers, chefs, and others interested in the region's food system. You are encouraged to consider participating with a presentation in an area of concern or expertise. We encourage presentations from minority and under-represented groups.
The 2001 Summit will have a special emphasis on policy in the Mid-Atlantic region and have four major subject areas-food, farming, hunger and youth. The youth sessions will be held in a half-day session on Thursday, November 29. Multiple opportunities will be provided for participants to dialogue and network across particular areas of concern.

We seek a variety of formats for presentations; they include:
1. “How-to” presentations--presentations designed to instruct participants in a particular technique, for example a specific technology, marketing technique, assessment, or financial model.
2. Debate presentations--pro-con presentations designed to show two sides of an issue to help people make informed decisions, for example a particular issue, a process, or a policy.
3. Multiple view presentations--designed to show several views on the same subject.
4. Information presentations--designed to inform participants by providing data, facts, and recent news events on a particular area of interest.
5. Show and tell presentations--presentations that are more “hands-on” in nature--using different types of materials to describe a farming operation, an industry, or project.
6. We seek presentations relating to youth-- from youth and from adults who work with youth--to be presented on Thursday, November 29.
