For the past three years, The Food Trust and other farming, food and hunger organizations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region have co-hosted the Future of Our Food and Farms Summit, convening hundreds of community leaders concerned about the food and farming system of the region. These leaders gather to network, learn from each other, and create awareness about community food security in the region for more effective food and farm policy.

Key issues raised at the Summit incorporate some of the most critical problems facing America's food industry, from farmer to consumer, including the widening gap between consumers and their food source; a lack of public awareness of the interconnection between farming, suburban sprawl, and limited food access in urban areas; and food safety and access to information about the safety of the food supply.

The Nutrition Education Symposium will bring together individuals from throughout the mid-Atlantic region to foster a regional approach to nutrition education and to promote improved collaboration and information sharing among nutrition educators. The Symposium will host a forum for promoting excellence in nutrition education, showcasing initiatives that have successfully brought about behavioral change in the diets of persons with limited economic resources.

Please join us for breakfast at 9:00 AM, followed by a panel of the principal investigators from each state discussing how their states work to meet Healthy People 2010 objectives for the Nation. At 10:30, key individuals from each state will present best practices in nutrition education during two concurrent sessions. Educational materials will be available for display and ordering.
