Ships of the Spanish-American War--
Armored Cruisers--USS New York

USS New York (Armored Cruiser # 2) was built between 1890 and 1893. She played a major role in Caribbean operations during the Spanish- American War and was Rear Admiral William T. Sampson's flagship at the time of the Battle of Santiago on 3 July 1898. Twice renamed during the next three decades, she remained afloat until scuttled to avoid capture by the Japanese in December 1941.

This page features views of the New York, including photographs taken on board the ship.
