War in the Desert
Covering operations not dealt with in earlier South African official histories,
this thoroughly researched book deals with the whole war in North Africa, with
special emphasis on the part played by 1st and 2nd SA Divisions. The capture of
Bardia, Halfaya and Sollum in early 1942, the fall of Tobruk and the battles at
El Alamein are dealt with in detail, and the narrative embodies a wealth of
previously unpublished information not only from Allied but also from German and
Italian sources and from senior officers on both sides.
