Subject: [compost_tea] Heat and tea

I just sent on off list note to Tom J that it is 9 degrees here and that is
up from -2.....which brings me to a new topic I think the list should
pursue: methods and equipment to ensure tea stays at a warm temperature
while it is being made.

Keeping teas in the 70 plus range isn't difficult if you have a five gallon
brewer or live in Las Vegas. What kind of heaters are other folks using?

Jeff

Hi Jeff
In winter here I use two coil type electric immersion heaters
1500 watt - cheap to buy - robust - will heat the tank easily from about
12Celcius to operating temp then switch off one to maintain it - the initial
heating is where most of the energy goes. My tank is insulated and I'd think
that would be a good idea, even just some roof bats wrapped around the
outside. I also have a 'space blanket' that I put over the top to hold heat
in.
Cheers
Lloyd Charles
