To everyone on the Compost Tea Listserv:
First, we would like to thank everyone for their support of this new
organization. And we do appreciate the feedback. We meet every Thursday
and wanted to write this letter as a group to respond to all the inquiries about
the organization.
We have been working long and hard since this idea was first born amongst
us last October. It is a huge undertaking and one that will need more help as
we go further if we are to actualize the visions we have stated. However, we
are, as all of you, committed to the continuation of compost tea throughout the
world.
The question of advertising has been mentioned. We have listed who we are,
including our companies, because we think everyone should know who is
starting this group. We have no hidden agendas. We want you to know who
we are, check us out if you like, contact us if you like, so you have a better
idea about us.
We all have full-blown companies we run and the time demand to make the
ICTC happen is our commitment to this industry and all those who use
compost tea. What was a seed grew quickly and dynamically and the full
impact and vision of the ICTC is only now being realized, though gladly it is.
Regardless, in due time elections probably will become the appropriate route.
At this juncture, however, the fact that the board members are in close
proximity and can meet every week to carve out what needs to get done, how
and when to create the structure and workings of the organization is the most
practical and efficient route. We are not here to tell anyone what to do. Rather,
we are here to listen to what needs to be done and help make it happen. As
we become solid, and hopefully volunteers come forward to assist, we will
have created a structure that can then be run through an election process and
be successful in doing so.
Our intention is to provide an organization and website that provides accurate
information and standards that are based on scientific field trials and data with
proven effectiveness. As this data changes, so will the standards. We want to
create standards for compost tea because those standards must come from
within. Whether one abides by those standards is voluntary. However, by
setting a standard everyone knows what the least is that they should expect
for a good tea and what it will do for them. With certification the public will
know those who meet the standards.
We intend to create a place where the consumer can go and get accurate
information to make informed decisions and have success with their compost
tea. We are therefore making ourselves known through all publications,
garden clubs and associations that have an interest in compost tea.
We want to keep members abreast of happenings with the NOSB, NOP, EPA,
etc. We are all aware of the actions of the NOSB last year, and we should not
become complacent because that recommendation has been dropped. Lack
of guidelines that keep us in line with regulatory practices of existing
governmental bodies is detrimental to the future of compost tea. When the
time comes we can work together to address issues of concern.
This organization wants to benefit the homeowner, the grower, as well as the
manufacturer. The most important agenda right now is gaining support and
membership so that we can continue to build what we hope will be a solid
organization that secures the future of compost tea.
Our best regards to all and hopes for your continued support.
