Hi Jeff, Tom et al:
http://www.nature.com/nsu/nsu_pf/021118/021118-1.html
"Compared with an artificial honey solution of the same thickness and sugar=
concentration, natural honey kills bacteria three times more effectively, =
Rose Cooper, a microbiologist at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff=
, and colleagues have shown. They are not sure what the active ingredients =
are."
What with the price of honey exceeding that of molasses by many times, I wo=
uld still rather put the former on my toast than in my tea.
But, before saying it is or is not a good idea based on what effects it has=
on the burgeoning microherd in the tea vat, a bit of actual research would=
be better than even informed speculation, I betcha....
Empirically yours, sweetly,
Frank Teuton---trying to figure out the 'buzz' about honey...

Subject: Re: [compost_tea] RE HONEY INSTEAD OF MOLASSES? User of honey
O.K. Tom, if you are saying the mechanism for honey is only working becau=
se it causes osmotic pressure and sucks microbes dry, then I back down and =
thank you for correcting me!
However, I do stand by the part of the statement regarding using too much=
sugar when trying to get fungi.
Cheers,
Jeff
