Hi Folks
I am a bit behind with those mails as I went out for
5 days.
I have here in south of Brazil an anedoctal case of a
organic grower who was able to detect trifuralin
deleterious effects in his pasture 25 ( say twenty five )
years after trifuralin have been used.
This is something that you should not even get close
to it much less use it.

Hey Scott,
Corn gluten meal, a high protein cattle feed supplement, works very well
at
inhibiting germinating seedlings from developing roots, effectively
killing
the germinating seed. Nick Christians, at Iowa State, discovered and
developed this process, and hence, has the patent on it. Most feed
stores,
if they don't have it, can order it for you. It goes on at 20 lbs./1000
sq.ft. and sells at our local feed store for $17.50/50 lb. bag (2500
sq.ft.
coverage). Iowa State U. is also working on a hydrolyzed liquid that
would
work that same way as the dry product. For more info go to
http://www.gluten.iastate.edu/.
The catch,,, you have to get it out as the weeds seeds are germinating.
Too
late and it fertilizes. With the proper timing, it has been very
effective
for Central Texas gardeners. And as a plus, it is also 10 to 12 percent
nitrogen.
