Thanks, Robyn for bringing this application to our notice. Thanks everyone for the observations so far. I happen to agree with most of what has been said, but want to apply some lateral thinking:
1. It could be that the Mollisons' applications are a 'friendly' attempt, to head off 'hostile' attempts like we saw last year - ie. they are doing this on behalf of us all, the permaculture family. (If so, it would have helped to tell us first, but that doesn't ever seem to be Bill's style.) Would someone like to ask them about this?
2. I'm not a lawyer either. Who is? There must be some out there ....
3. Let's not let this divert us too much. If you look at this from 'outside' (ie the general public's view) they will or won't book on a permaculture course whatever it is called. So far the certificate has been great, as a world wide single unit of currency, but it is probably inevitable that sooner or later, we will have Mollison approved PDC's and other PDC's. It will still remain a case of 'buyer beware' - no-one has ever asked to see my certificate - I'm not even sure where it is. personal reputation will remain the most important thing.
Best wishes
Ian
PS. while I have your attention, we are spending November 2001 - July 2002 in Britain. Anyone over there who'd like a slide show on Australian permaculture?
