Re: Bt and butterflies

This is most definitely true regarding bt in the soil. It may never break
down in our great-grandchildrens lifetimes, as the concentrations are
already so high, and is still being used.

As I live in the 'cornbelt' it is of growing concern here. We have an
entire rural community (sandy loam) that has such high concentrations of bt
in their wells (surrounded by cornfields) that there had to be an emergency
fund prepared to provide city water. But what is even worse, is that the
officials KNEW the wells were contaminated 5 years before anything was
done! Took alot of small children getting very ill for the problem to be
addressed.

To address the situation in Mexico, our extension officer is always poking
fun at me for refusing to eat meat, fruit and veggies that have any
chemicals or hormones added. He specifically stated to an entire Master
Gardener class that even though some of the chemicals and pesticieds have
been banned here in the U.S., we now sell those same chemicals to other
countries that produce fruit/veg that we import. So, we're STILL getting
those same banned chemicals in our produce depts at the grocery stores and
some of the Farm Markets. He's explains it as 'just economics'.

I'll be relocating to my land in SW Colorado (high mtn. desert) and will be
so thankful to get back to some cleaner air/water and seriuosly grow my own
food. The higher altitudes just CAN'T be as contaminated as the mid-west!

Blessings,
Ava
