Hardy was tried, found guilty of murder in the first degree and hanged on January 19, 1894. History records <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wvculture.org\/history\/crime\/hardyjohn01.html\">this<\/a> from the Wheeling Daily Register. Judge Herndon and Walter Taylor defended Hardy.
