EX1: Infinite Slab

Homework Problems

The wall of a shed is covered with insulation board two inches thick. The thermal conductivity of the board is 0.09 W/mK.

Problem 28 - homework! :

Determine the rate of heat flow (in watts) through a 10 feet square wall if the outside temperature is 0°C and the inside temperature 20°C.

Problem 29 - homework! :

If the wall were made of glass what would the heat flow be? for glass is 1.4 W/mK.

Problem 30 - homework! :

If the wall were made of thin sheets of glass enclosing stagnant air 2 inches thick, what would be the heat flow? for stagnant air is 0.026 W/mK.

NOTE: Stagnant air is a pretty good insulator, which is why energy-saving windows are designed this way.
