Clean air stones, or any ceramic or glass air diffuser, in about 3% peroxide.
Soak for several hours, until no more dark color comes out of the air stone
when you rinse. On occasion, switch and use 3% vinegar solutions, so you
don't select for peroxide-resistant organisms on your air stones.

Please be aware that any basket, bag, tube or disk diffuser will eventually
need to be cleaned as well. The holes get plugged up by the bacteria and
fungi growing and developing biofilms.

Those rascally critters!
