Spores are the asexual reproductive stages of fungi. They tend to form on
the hyphae, and thus when the hyaphe are disturbed, fly off like little dust
clouds. We don't want those dust clouds. Not good for you. Not the best
fungi.
So, strands of hyphae through the compost, not dust clouds.
