RES: [compost_tea] Rock dust

Hi Jack,

I believe that others will also agree that in order for the rock dust to

be utilized by the microbes in CT or in the soil it must have a

a particle size that is compatible to the microbe size. I am

talking about its utilization as a nutrient sorce.

Paramagnetism is not well studied but the anedoctal evidence

is quite good and theory behind that is also quite accepted acceptable.

Paramagnetism correlates very well with soil fertility.

What is rock dust ? Basically any ground rock regardless its paramagnetism

force. I have seen quite good rock dusts that have paramagnetism on the low side

( 400 micro CGS) so that paramagnetism does not tell you the whole picture.

Good nutrient profile is also something that you want to look at.

Using rock dust in CT machines that have a rotary pump can bring additional problems

like the poweder wearing the pump.

Being “energized” does not mean anything to me. I am sure that very little

people in Italy knows about the concept of paramagnetism so I am positive

they are not refering to that when they say “energized”. Energized by what ?

Paramagnetism is an inherent property of the matter. It cannot be fabricated.

Books on Rock Dust :

-          Paramagnetism – Dr Phil Callahan, PhD.

We have been buying a product from Italy for composting and for control of ammonia smells in chicken houses which in addition to microlife, contains an "energised" calcium sulphate and an "energised" quartz.  It works well but is very expensive.  The suppliers English is poor and it is very difficult to make out what exactly their claim is.

I have seen a couple of references to the use of rockdust from quarries as an ingredient in CT.  Jose & Tom, I think.  Someone referred to its paramagnetic qualities.  My question to the group is what is "rockdust" and what benefit does it give to the CT?  Is the energy/magnetism natural or "manufactured"?  Where can I read more?

Possibly CT (presumably a different recipe) can be applied in animal husbandry applications as well?
