Re: [compost_tea] Parcipitate?

Elaine,

I cannot let you assume responsibility for my spelling error. I misspelled
the word in a reply regarding humic acids. "Precipitates," that which
separates in solid form from solution, is what was intended.

In that reply and this could be an ongoing debate, the question came up
regarding evaluating humic and fulvic acids. The testing procedure I
descriped has worked very well for me in the past. With resepect to fulvic
acid assays, an example of the lack of an accepted and standard procedure for
governmental regulatory agencies is dissplayed in Caliofornia's rejection of
the use of the word "fulvic acid" on agricultural product labels. I do not
doubt there are procedures in the literature and what seems simple turns out
not to be. I am aware that efforts to establish a standard of measure of
fulvic acid for agricultural use in the US are and have been underway for
some time.

This is why we have to settle for sending two samples to the same lab and
utilizing two assays. From that information, we can estimate the fulvic
content.

Tom
