Re: Roundup information

Just a few thoughts on some of the comments I have seen on this subject:

I know this is ground we have gone over a zillion times in this
group, but apparently it needs repeating. ANY substance has the ability
to cause harm if used unappropriately. I am not saying the facts that
have been posted on Roundup are wrong, but in my fairly short experience
(10 years custom application - 100,000 plus acres) I have NEVER known
anyone to get sick from glyphosate exposure. I have to believe that in
those cases where it has occured, the workers must have been grossly
mishandling the product. Mother Nature throws chemicals at us all the
time that are far more dangerous than Roundup and many other pesticides.
(PLEASE NOTE: I said MANY, not ALL) Just grab an Industrial Toxicology
book from the library sometime and look up vitamin C, or most any other
substance we consider to be good for us. You'll find mutagens,
carcinogens, and all other sorts of horrible things that abound in your
average glass of orange juice. I am really tired of this notion that
"natural is good - man made is bad". It's simply not true, and to argue
that is to ignore reality. If you want to argue about whether our system
of risk asessment is adequate, that's another story. The bottom line is
that table salt has killed far more people than Roundup ever will, so
let's focus our energy on some things that pose a genuine risk.
