Cold Water Agriculture

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE GARDEN

Start your own garden
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you can start your garden you must have access to cold deep ocean
water. At present the permitting and environmental impact statement process
is such that a deep ocean pipe is a public work. At this moment the only
facility is at the Natural Energy Laboratory in Hawaii. Soon there may be a
pipe in Haiti, or Yokuska, or Morocco, or Mauritius or Ponape. Your best
bet is to lobby your legislature for this innovation. Once you have access
to the water you need a plot of coastal desert land and the ability to
import organic composted soil. You are now ready to install a network of
black un-perforated irrigation pipe. Standard connections for this pipe are
not leak proof so you must get the connectors that have pressure bands that
bind. The manifolding system can be PVC. You will need a small supply of
fresh water to prevent leaf burn and for washing and sanitary uses. If
fresh water is not available simple condensate freshwater generators can be
made with commercially available swimming pool heater heat exchangers or
you can build your own "hurricane' tower. Soon to be described on the web.

Hardware installed, you must find or be an organic gardener with young
children.
Kevin Sue Rohan is the first 'role model mother of all future coldwater
organic gardeners. Her two sons Landon and Brendan spent their preschool
days in the garden. They learned that they could help in 'thinning' the
crops and enjoy the thinnings and they also learned to protect the harvest.
Tory Rohan was "at the breast" when Kevin took over the gardening. Except
for meat and fish, Tory is a product of the garden. This beautiful healthy
child is featured in the frontispiece of this book surrounded by the other
products of ColdAg.

Now you will want to plant your garden. Depicted here is Kevin and her
'three' in a corner of the garden. The leafy foliage on the ground are the
tops of the biggest and most delicious sweet potatoes you have ever seen or
tasted. The fruit tree was planted by husband Shane Rohan and has flowered
and fruited four times in one year. But you can select your own favorites.
Tips and techniques for each of the nearly one hundred crops so far
produced will appear in this Garden Book of Kevin Sue. When you have
finished here proceed by alphabet to go back and browse in the world of the
children of the ocean seas.and dream of the blue-green garden of Eden.
