Try this simple science trick to see if you can make a penny jump without touching it!

What you Need:

one penny
one bucket of ice cold water
empty glass soda bottle

What to Do:

  1. Set the empty bottle in the bucket of ice cold water for about 30 seconds.
  2. Remove the bottle from the water.
  3. Place the penny on the bottle lip so that the penny completely covers the opening.
  4. Wet the edge of the penny with water to help seal the opening.
  5. Wrap both your hands around the bottle, until the penny jumps!
What Happened?

The cold air in the bottle was warmed by the heat from the palms of your hands. As the warmed air expanded, it pushed against the penny and caused it to JUMP!
