Hi C-Birders,
Yesterday afternoon I hiked the Kingsnake Trail at Congaree Swamp National
Monument, Richland Co., SC, all the way from the canoe landing to the
Oakridge Trail and back. What a great spring day! I saw or heard hundreds of
birds, including a lot of newly arrived neotropical migrants, but oddly I
had no flycatchers at all. The Eastern Phoebes have left and the Great
Crested Flycatchers have not yet arrived. Non-feathered fliers included a
blue gazillion zebra swallowtails, pearl crescents and lots of other
flutterbys that I do not know. The paw paw and the golden ragwort are both
in flower. What a day!
Here is my bird species list:
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron -- fishing in a slough
Wood Duck
Turkey Vulture
Red-shouldered Hawk
Barred Owl -- at least 8 calling from all parts of the swamp
