Yesterday I had to split my efforts for the Cumberland County MBC
because I had to work graduation at the college during the afternoon. I
birded from 5:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the area near home, covering the
King's Grant golf course, Methodist College, and the lower end of
McClosky Road. I was satisfied with my morning finds, including a pair
of loggerhead shrikes and an eastern wood-pewee. After graduation ended
my fishing partner and I drove to Beaver Dam Creek in the southeastern
corner of the county and birded until dusk. There we found, among other
birds, the y-b chat I had located earlier this spring and a y-b cuckoo
which we saw very well. The cuckoo was a new county bird for me.
