Goshawk? in NC mountains

Greetings,
Just returned from a week of high elevation camping and birding in the NC
mountains west of Asheville. Highlights (besides the cool air and lack of
biting insects!) were Pine Siskins, Ruffed Grouse, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks,
Scarlet Tanagers, Canada Warblers, singing Hermit Thrushes (3 on Heintooga
Spur Road) and Black-capped Chickadees (Balsam Mountain Campground)! I also
was surprised to see an Elk calf (are they called fawns?) near Poll Gap.
My best bird was seen just east of Soco Gap in the Plott Balsam Mountains.
It was a very large (HUGE!), heavy bodied accipiter that flew across Hwy 19
into the woods. This was a naked eye sighting but I am 99% certain that it
was a N. Goshawk (definitely female)!
Wasn't there a possible/probable Goshawk reported last summer somewhere in
the NC mountains? Does anyone out there remember the date/location/details?
