Mecklenburg Audubon's LONG day in S.C. continued from the Orangeburg sod farm
to Bennetsville (Lake Paul Wallace).
The Western Grebe made the trip worthwhile -- bobbing in the water off the
end of the penninsula picnic area, asleep with his head under his wing. He
did wake up and show his stuff -- preening and diving -- before we left.
Also sighted:
comorants (sevberal)
kingfisher
mallards
coots
great blue heron
great egret
wood duck
red-tailed hawk (2)
eagles (2 adults perched at the north end of the lake by the causeway, and 1
immature soaring at the north end)
Canada geese
crow
