We had a good variety of warblers and other migrants this weekend at the
Ridge Junction Overlook (located at milepost 355.8 on the Blue Ridge
Parkway, just north of the entrance to Mt. Mitchell). Saturday, the
Foothills Bird Club had it's field trip at the overlook and were treated to
a group of 12 Red Crossbills who lit on some spruces next to the overlook.
They were in all their various plumages, ranging from bright red to yellow
to dull gray and streaky. They were life birds for two in our group which
made it all the more special! Here are our results for the weekend:

We will be at the overlook again next weekend if anyone would like to join
us! Just remember to get there as early as possible (we start at 7:00am)
and do not forget a jacket as it has been quite chilly in the mornings. The
temperature usually is around 55 in the am and reaches the mid-70's by 11:00
or so.
