Dear Friends:
Doug Shadwick, Judy Murray, and I birded Falls Lake (near Durham, NC) today
for about 5 hours. We saw many shorebirds including Spotted, Western,
Semi-palmated, and Least Sandpipers, Semi-palmated Plovers, and many
Killdeer. We also saw Caspian and Black Terns. We saw Blue-winged Teal as
well.
The birds of the day were an early Snow Goose with a flock of Canadas, a
white-phased Little Blue Heron, and a Yellow Rail that flushed out of some
tall grass near the edge of the lake (not too far from the railroad trestle
on the west side of I-85)!
