Glenn Hilton Birdwalk & E. Coll-Doves

We had a good turnout for our monthly birdwalk this morning at Glenn Hilton
Park in Hickory, NC. There were a few good birds still around and made for
an interesting walk. The highlights were: Red-shouldered Hawk, White-eyed
Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Cape May Warbler, Magnolia Warbler,
Black-throated Green Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Northern
Waterthrush, several Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Fish Crows, and hundreds of
Blue Jays (migrating we supposed).

After the walk, we took Dom and Emma D'Ostillio to Conover to see the
Eurasian Collared-Doves. They were both there, on the same telephone pole
as before (at the corner of McLin Creek Road and Emmanuel Church Road).
They were preening each other and led us to assume that they are indeed a
pair. The best spot for viewing the birds is to park in the gravel lot at
Dean's Florist and look toward the intersection. They seem to prefer the
end pole that is surrounded by trees. If anyone goes to see these birds,
please let us know whether or not you were successful. Our sighting this
morning made the third for the week (on the same pole & wires!) and we would
like to know of any other "hang-outs" they may have. If anyone needs
further directions, please let us know and we'll be glad to send them!
