Howdy!
I never wrote about our Raleigh waterfowl day last week. Some of the areas
were reported on by other birders. But, the airport ponds weren't mentioned.
So, last Saturday at the airport ponds, Joe and I saw about 150 Ring-necked
Ducks and around 27 Ruddy Ducks. There was a beautiful Wood Duck pair in a
pond on Globe Rd. too.
Today we checked out Falls Lake for Common Loons and ducks. Well.....don't go
to Falls Lake on a gorgeous, warm fall day!! Too many boats (and a jet ski
zooming were we usually see our loons). BOO!!! The parking lot at the visitor
center was active with woodland species though. A flock of Waxwings and
Robins munching on berries. There were also Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned
Kinglets, a Sapsucker, and Juncos.
Looking forward to my loons returning!!
We're going to the Virginia Shenandoah Valley for Thanksgiving. If anyone has
birding suggestions there, let me know.
Happy Thanksgiving and birding to you!!
