I was looking out our window and was taken by surprise to see a juvenile
Y-B sapsucker hawking insects.
It was sitting against the trunk of a small ash tree (a woodpeckers are
supposed to) when all of a sudden it jumped into the air and chased a
flying insects, then returned to its starting point along the trunk.
I wonder if it was working its sap holes, and in the warm sun scared off
insects that had been attracted.
Has anyone else observed similar behavior.
