2000 pelagic trip season

Dear all,

This coming year (2000), I am trying for something "new and different"
in the pelagic trip department. I have reserved the Memorial Weekend
(May 27, 28, 29) with the Country Girl but my goal is to run extended
trips. On a typical 12 hour day-long trip, nearly half is lost getting
to and from the birding grounds. I can't run overnights on the Country
Girl, but I have asked Capt. Foreman to extend our time offshore by a
couple hours (for extra money of course). The logic is that by
increasing our prime birding time by 1/3 over 3 days, I effectively give
us the equivalent of 4 birding days, plus with the ability to explore
waters not normally reached. Last year another tour operator tried an
overnight with disappointing results. I suggested to him that his
itinerary would have that result. I don't think the secret is going
farther offshore, but rather lengthening the transect and using the
extra time to linger more in productive areas. There are other things
which may help.

To make this fly, I need to fill all three days early. If you are
thinking about taking a pelagic trip in the new millennium, please
consider these. For anyone signing up before March 1, I'm offering the
trips at the same rates as typical shorter trips ($95).

This will be the fifth time since 1988 when I started running pelagic
trips, that I've tried to "push the envelope." The past 4 times were
major successes, and three of them occurred over the Memorial weekend
and were responsible for the discovery of Fea's Petrel among others.
