Henderson County Update

Folks:
At 12:07 PM this date I was birding at Super Sod on Hooper Lane. I
had just started to walk the center road, (towards the equipment shed) when
I flushed a SHORT-EARED OWL. The bird flew north and landed about 100 yds.
east of the Allied Van parked on the northern most road of Super Sod. The
bird landed along the ditch immediately north of the Allied Van. I walked
north towards this location with video camera in hand. As I approached, the
bird again flushed and I was able to get some good, in flight video. At
one point, a female Northern Harrier and the Short-eared Owl interacted in
flight. Finally the Short-eared landed in the tilled field that is
immediately north of the sod field that contains the Orange Allied Van. I
had my scope with me and was able to view the owl on the ground at 50X for
almost 45 minutes. The owl flew twice, but always landed in the same tilled
field. Today has been a very bright sunny day and the view was spectacular!
I only wish there could have been more folks present to enjoy this bird.
This is the second time this fall we have had a Short-eared Owl at this
location, I would guess it is the same bird.
