Henderson County Update/Short-eared Owls

Folks:
I birded Hooper Lane this PM with Jeff Catlin of Marietta, S.C. and
Betty McIlwaine of Brevard. At about 2:40 PM while walking the center road
of Super Sod, we flushed 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS . Both birds then landed out in
the 1st sod field north of the Mills River Bridge. They flew on several
occasions, but always stayed in view on the sod fields. Two Northern
Harriers appeared and the 4 birds performed an Arial ballet over the center
sod field. The birds interacted with each other for at least 5-10 minutes,
what a sight. We had brilliant scope views of both birds for almost 1 hour!
It doesn't get much better then that.
                                                            Regards,
                                                            Wayne
