!062994 Compton's files over 30 pages of modifications Today's San Jose Mercury News reports that Compton's has filed over thirty pages of rebuttal and modified claims in response to the PTO's rejection of its initial claims. Should be interesting to see how the PTO responds. Unfortunately, not much prior art was submitted to the PTO in response to requests by the PTO. As many at the software patent hearings pointed out, the reexamination process is still baised against challengers, who prefer to save their best materials for any potential court proceedings. Since the PTO didn't wave its reexamination rules for the Compton's case, it shouldn't be surprised. Greg Aharonian Internet Patent News Service
