Twigs are roughened or cracking below the leafy portion;
needles are 5-13 cm. (2 - 5 1/8 in.) long, sometimes
in bundles of 2 and 3 on the same tree;
bark plates have small resin pockets - Shortleaf pine (Pinus
echinata)
