He\/she\/it\/they had been my friend for a while now. That was before FaceBook began their jihad against fakesters. Not that Perkins was a fake. She\/he\/it\/they represented the Library in its fullness, its aspect as a social creature or at least a social building with a social awareness, an interactive and responsive organism &#8212; not unlike the living <a href=\"http:\/\/libraries.ucsd.edu\/services\/info\/struct.html\">Geisel Library<\/a> protrayed in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vernor_Vinge\">Vernor Vinge<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/vielmetti.typepad.com\/superpatron\/2006\/08\/vernor_vinge_ra.html\">Rainbows End.<br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nPerkins isn&#8217;t the only Library to be destroyed by FaceBook, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasongriffey.net\/wp\/2006\/09\/25\/facebook-takes-down-libraries\/\">Jason Griffy over in Tennessee sees a trend and reports in from there.<\/a> More Libraries killed. Vanished and not allowed to return.<\/p>\n<p>FaceBook, <a href=\"http:\/\/demo.lyceum.ibiblio.org\/jomc490\/2006\/09\/21\/yahoo-to-buy-facebook-for-1-billion\/\">about the be bought possibly by Yahoo!<\/a>, is retracing the missteps of the faded Friendster as <a href=\"http:\/\/chimprawk.blogspot.com\/2006\/09\/facebook-is-killing-fakesters.html\">Fred notes over at Unit Structures<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sla-divisions.typepad.com\/itbloggingsection\/\">The Blogging Section of the SLA-IT<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/sla-divisions.typepad.com\/itbloggingsection\/2006\/09\/librarys_facebo.html\">the story on the University of Kenntucky Library.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>FaceBook bring back my Library friend!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Perkins Library was my friend.
