UNC&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu\/Faculty\/search\/detail.cfm?person_id=85\">John Karsarda<\/a> big idea (as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/magazine\/107\/aerotropolis.html\">well described here in a recent Fast Company article<\/a>) that airports are the future of cities. Desirable and economic engines of the future that should be the center of our development; not noisy dangerous annoyances best placed on the distance edges and treated like a warehouse district.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ibiblio.org\/pjones\/wordpress\/?p=1515\">As described here earlier<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kellogg.northwestern.edu\/faculty\/bio\/galinsky.htm\">Adam Galinsky<\/a> gets well deserved credit for discovering a secret of auction success &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/12\/10\/magazine\/10Section2b.t-2.html\">starting low price leads to selling at a high price<\/a> in the same issue of the Magazine under the title (the titles are in alphabetical order) <em>&#8220;Low Starting Prices Lead to High Auction Sales&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Overall a great collection of ideas and a good read. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jaron_Lanier\">Jaron Lanier<\/a> crabs about mobocracy in wikipedia calling it an example of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/12\/10\/magazine\/10section1B.t-4.html\">Digital Maoism<\/a> and warning about collectivism in the market place of ideas &#8212; no Hayakian, he.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A is for Aerotropolis &#8212; or at least that newish word is the first entry in this year&#8217;s Ideas edition of the New York Times Magazine.
