My eyes glaze over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the finalists for the job of Dean of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jomc.unc.edu\">the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC <\/a>was part of a team that did a study of newspaper readers in the St. Petersburg (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sptimes.com\/\">Florida<\/a>, not <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sptimes.ru\/\">Russia<\/a>) area.<br \/>\nThe question: <em>What writing style do readers prefer and benefit from most?<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Hint:<\/strong> Not the famous inverted pyramid style that we&#8217;ve taught in J-schools forever. (according to the study)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beckman.uiuc.edu\/profiles\/faculty\/g-green.html\">Dr. Georgia Green<\/a>, who is not the finalist BTW, did a through write up of the study and the findings in an article for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asne.org\">the American Society of Newspaper Editors <\/a>called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asne.org\/index.cfm?ID=2528\"><em>&#8220;Structure, Goals, and Comprehensibility Revisited.&#8221;<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Note:<\/strong> This study didn&#8217;t settle the ongoing discussion of inverted pyramid vs. storytelling or narrative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the finalists for the job of Dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC was part of a team that did a study of newspaper readers in the St. Petersburg (Florida, not Russia) area.
