{"id":34,"date":"2004-09-15T08:22:47","date_gmt":"2004-09-15T12:22:47","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=34"},"modified":"2004-09-15T09:09:53","modified_gmt":"2004-09-15T13:09:53","slug":"google-vs-the-second-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/pjones\/blog\/google-vs-the-second-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Google vs the Second Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was teaching during the panel yesterday that was called &#8220;Is Google Good&#8221; &#8212; I swear I read it as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2003\/US\/06\/29\/nyt.friedman\/\">&#8220;Is Google God?&#8221; <\/a> so did <a href=\"http:\/\/justinsomnia.org\/\">Justin Watt<\/a> when he posted to the attendees.<\/p>\n<p>This reminded me that <a href=\"http:\/\/ibiblio.org\/pjones\/wordpress\/index.php?p=22\">when I was at FOO Camp this past weekend with several Google and Gmail folks.<\/a> Candidly one recalled the two Google corporate commandments: Don&#8217;t Be Evil and Don&#8217;t Suck. Now that Google is a publicly held company (sorta I think the founders and friends  are still the majority by far), the Googlist wondered just how long they could continue without sucking &#8212; 6 months, 6 years, 60 years? Of course, he was hoping for the 60 years, but opined that all companies will eventually suck. <\/p>\n<p>Talk turned to times when Apple (whose folks were also in attendance including some serious ex-Applers) <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gil_Amelio\">did<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mosaic.echonyc.com\/~steven\/insane.html\">did not suck.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Is there a meantime to sucking measure (M2S) once a company goes public? <\/p>\n<p>I refer you to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secondlaw.com\/\">Second Law of Thermodynamics<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was teaching during the panel yesterday that was called &#8220;Is Google Good&#8221; &#8212; I swear I read it as &#8220;Is Google God?&#8221; so did Justin Watt when he posted to the attendees.
